As a psychotherapist and family counselor for almost four decades, I have worked with hundreds of people who found themselves in circumstances that led them to seek professional help in order to function more effectively, feel better about themselves and enjoy happier, healthier lives.  It has been a distinct pleasure to work with so many wonderful people who just needed some guidance through some of those difficulties that can beset us all from time to time.

I maintain a general practice wherein I assist those who need assistance with life’s “everyday problems.”  I refer individuals who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders and other highly specialized problems to therapists or institutions who are specifically trained to treat them.

My areas of counseling emphasis include:
  • Marital and family therapy, including remarriage and blended families
  • Individual therapy for treatment of:
    • Depression
    • Anxiety disorders
    • Grief recovery
    • Life change adjustment
    • Stress management
    • Communication and conflict issues
  • Separation and divorce guidance
During my many years of practice, I have become acutely aware of the power of words to affect our emotions and our relationships. Over this time I have noticed that certain words and concepts appear repeatedly in conversations between marriage partners, business associates, and other people attempting to develop effective and rewarding relationships.  I have discovered that the various meanings and applications of these words and ideas are often at the root of the problems people experience in their business and personal lives.

In an effort to provide relief to my clients, I have written numerous articles about the most commonly misunderstood words and ideas over which they were having conflict.  Many of my clients and workshop participants began to request the material, not just for themselves, but also to share with family, friends and work associates.   In response to their encouragement to do so, I produced the articles in book form, which is now available on this website.

Definitions for Living offers an escape from the pain and frustration that comes from misunderstandings. The words we use can confuse or clarify. They can hurt or heal. This book is for anyone who wants to be better understood and have harmonious relationships in marriage, family, and business.
